#3-Robert Morris University D-III 9 vs. #6-Fredonia State-I 3

In a battle of two teams going to the ACHA National Tournament, the Colonials break away in the second period and never look back.  Nick Campbell stopped 27 of 28 shots in the victory.  RMU started quickly with a Jason Hosko goal.  Five minutes later, the lead was stretched to 2-0 thanks to Andy Coughenour.  FSU cut the lead in half to end the period, on a Power Play goal from Andrew Dissanayake.  The Colonials took off in the 2nd period, scoring three unanswered goals, from Grant Faulkner, Jeremy Martin, and Eric Bogden.  RMU kept the pressure on in the third with four more goals, including two from Chris Graff.Bogden and Hosko finished with three points.  Pat Hurley chipped in a goal for Fredonia State.

#5-University of Pittsburgh D-II 6 vs. #4-Indiana of PA D-II 1

Pitt scored the first three goals of the game and never looked back.  Thom Wilsonscored the first goal eight minutes into the game.  The Panthers extended the lead to three on goals by their Captain Trevor Shaw and by Dan Stein.  IUP made the score 3-1 on a Ryan Mullen goal halfway through the 2nd period.  Pitt iced the game with ten minutes left on a Will Pearl goal.  Will scored his 2nd four minutes later on the Power Play, with assists from Kyle Snyder & Nate Wright. GoalieGordon Collins was solid in net with 25 saves.  Pearl and finished with three points, Martin and Mark Clifford each finished with two points.

Games Recap: Round 2

#3-Robert Morris University D-III 9 vs. #2-Penn State Altoona 1

The Colonials continued their hot play with an impressive victory over the South Division Champion Penn State Altoona Lions.  All nine tallies were even strength goals for Robert Morris.  RMU scored 15 seconds into the game on a Jason Hoskogoal.  The scoring continued one minute later on a Chris Graff goal.  Once againNick Campbell was solid, stopping 21 shots and only letting in one goal.  Hosko finished with three goals, while Graff finished with two goals and one assist. Jeremy Martin had two goals and Brenden Boyle two assists.  Bryan Koronowski scored the only goal for Penn State Altoona.  The Colonials advance to the CHE Championship Series, trying to win their first CHE Championship since 1999.

#1-California of PA-I 13 vs #5-University of Pittsburgh D-II 0

The Defending CHE Champion, California “Vulcans” continued their impressive playoff performance with a commanding victory over the Pittsburgh “Panthers.” Two minutes into the game, Dan Tonini scored on an assist from Mitch Faust. Ten Minutes later Tim Gleason scored on the Power Play to give Cal a 2-0 lead. CHE “Defenseman of the Year” Nick Posa notched a Hat Trick, with two of them coming on the Power Play.  Ryan Jones & Nate Bohn each notched four points for the “Vulcan’s.”  Goalie Shane Bickar stopped all 17 shots he faced.  Cal moves onto the Championship Series with a chance to win an unprecedented 4thconsecutive CHE Championship.

*Game 3 was not played, CUP-I wins series 2-0.

 

Congratulations to the California University of Pennsylvania "Vulcans" for capturing their 4th consecutive CHE Championship by defeating Robert Morris University D-III in the CHE Championship Series 2-0.  #12-Ryan Jones of California claimed the "Jack McKinnon MVP Award" for scoring two goals and one assist in both games of the series.  Ryan was also awarded the CHE "Points Leader of the Year" for the 2009-10 season.

The 2010 Championship Series was one of the best series in recent history.  Once again, congratulations to both teams for a competitive post season and proving that the two best CHE teams this season deserved a shot at the title!  For complete game recaps of the CHE Championship Finals, please click here.
