North Defeats South 8-5 in the 8th Annual CHE All Star Game
The North used a fast start to defeat the South 8-5 in the 9th Annual College Hockey East All Star Game. The North stormed out to a 5-1 lead in the 1st period and never looked back. Ryan Jones of California of PA-I was named the MVP of the game for his two goals and one assist. The North avenged the South’s 11-8 victory in the 2006-2007 All-Star Game.
The South opened the scoring on a goal from Jason Layman (UPJ), thanks to an assist from teammate Bryan Relihan (UPJ). Four minutes later the North tied the score on a Mark Barakat (Pitt D-III) goal. The North then tacked on an additional four goals to end the first period score at 5-1. The goals came from Jones, Dustin Gaworski (RMU), DJ Craven (PSB) and Matt Warco (CUP-I).
The South worked their way back into the game, cutting the lead to 7-5 in the third period. Layman notched his first ever CHE All-Star game hat trick with six minutes left to bring the South within two. Mike Dziura(Pitt D-III) scored for the North to ice the game.
The Annual Skills Competition was won by the South by a score of 19-18.
