Over 350-people packed the Island Sports Center on Wednesday, January 15, 2003, to witness the South Division defeat the North Division 9-2 in the 4th Annual CHE All-Star Game. After falling behind early in the game, the North scored four unanswered goals to take control of the contest. Jordan Spallone of Saint Vincent College was named the All Star Game MVP thanks to his three goals and three assists. The line of Spallone, Tom Ward (St. Vincent), and Mike Nestico (Penn State West), were responsible for five of the nine South goals. All three are former teammates from Greensburg Central Catholic High School.
The game started off well for the North Division, as Jeff Cacia (IUP-DII) scored on assists from Roy King (Allegheny) and Mike Gresko (IUP-DII). Nestico evened the score seven minutes later, and Spallone added a goal three minutes later. The North took the lead for good eight minutes into the second period, when Devin Fell of Carnegie Mellon scored. It turned out to be the game winning goal.
Goalies Andrew Tully (St. Vincent), Brian Fike (California, PA), and Dave Layman (Pitt-Johnstown) combined to stop 42 of 44 North Division shots. Tully was the game winning goalie of the 2003 All Star Game.
North Division goals were scored by Cacia and Jim May (Allegheny). The South Division avenged a 7-5 loss by the North Division in the 2002 CHE All-Star Game.
