#3 Penn State Behrend 7 vs. #6 Saint Vincent College 4

Penn State Behrend gets their first ever CHE Playoff victory by defeating the Polar Bear Cats 7-4.  The game was tied at three going into last period, where the Lions pulled away with four straight goals.  Josh Horvath scored the game winning goal 26-seconds into the last period to give PSB a lead they would never relinquish.  SVC was lead by Joey Manning and Dave Glunt, who each had three points.  Eric Theissen stopped 28 shots in the victory for PSB.

#4 Robert Morris D-III 5 vs. #5 Pitt-Johnstown 3

RMU comes out on top to advance in a back and forth game.  The Colonials stormed out to a 2-0 first period lead, thanks to goals by Jack Erath and Dustin Gaworski.  The Ice Cats came out firing, scoring three straight goals in the first five minutes of the 2nd period.  Derek Lutterman took over for RMU, scoring the last three goals of the game, including an empty net goal to seal the game.  UPJ was lead by Jason Layman and Dave Duncan who each had two points.

Game Recaps: Round 2

 

#2 Penn State Altoona 5 vs. #3 Penn State Behrend 4

Penn State Altoona defeats Penn State Behrend to earn their first ever CHE Playoff win and advance to their first CHE Championship Series.  PSA came out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first, thanks to goals by Ryan KramerPhil Perreira, and Kevin McAndrew.  PSB came back late in the 2nd period, scoring three unanswered goals to tie the score at four.  Corey Jospeh scored the game winning goal with five minutes left in the third period.  Behrend was lead by Chris Simanic and Brian Hammel, who each had two points.

#1 California of PA-I 4 vs. #4 Robert Morris D-III 3

CUP-I easily controlled the contest, scoring the first eight goals of the contest.  The line of BJ DePaoliMatt Ward, and Dan Tonini lead the way for Cal, notching a total of 14-points.  The Vulcan’s came out flying scoring three goals in the first eight minutes.  CUP was getting contributions from many different players, with nine different players scoring.

Game 1: California of PA-I vs. PennState Altoona

Championship Series Game Recaps:

 

Game 1: California of PA-I 6 vs. Penn State Altoona 5

The Vulcans survive a late rally by Altoona to squeak by the Lions 6-5.  CUP-I stormed out to leads of 4-0 and 5-1 thanks to balanced scoring on goals byBrandon SchoolNick PosaMatt WardBJ DePaoli, and Dan Tonini.  The third period was all PSA, with the Lions scoring 4 of the 5 goals.  Jesse Patenskyled the way with a goal and two assists.  PSA cut the lead to 5-4 with 12 minutes left in the third, but Tonini scored ten minutes later to complete the victory.  Chris Ryan of Altoona stopped 45 of 51 shots in defeat.

Game 2: California of PA-I  5 vs. Penn State Altoona 2

California wins its second straight CHE Championship by defeating the Lions 5-2 in another closely contested matchup.  Once again, the Vulcan’s came out storming, scoring the first three goals, with two of them on the Power Play. Altoona stayed in the game, thanks to a goal by Joe McGoldrick. PSA had their chances in the 2nd, but were stopped in numerous 5-on-3 chances by goalie Tim Johnson.  Brandon Patterson’s goal sealed the deal with three minutes remaining.

  1. BJ DePaoli (CUP-I): Four Assists
  2. Ryan Jones (CUP-I): Two goals
  3. Corey Joseph (PSA): One Goal, One Assist, PP Goal
