The 5th installment of the CHE All-Star Game is in the record books. The weather outside was cold and snowy, but the action inside the Ice Castle Arena was hot and heavy. The North All-Star squad jumped out to an early 5-1 lead and went on to defeat the South All Stars 8-5 at the 2004 CHE All-Star Game. The North squad wasted no time as Ryan Morgan of Edinboro scored two minutes into the game. A near capacity crowd watched in amazement as the North scored five goals in the first period. Goalie Kevin Shovlin (IUP-DIII) stopped nine of ten shots in the period to hold the North lead.
The South made a comeback in period two, notching three goals, highlighted by DJ Book’s (Carnegie Mellon) goal one minute in the second period. Book also assisted on Mike Hoetzline’s (Penn State West) goal in the same frame. The score was cut to 7-4 going into the third period.
In the third period, goalie Jon Mosimann (Edinboro) stood on his head, stopping 11 of 12 shots. Michael Fritts of Penn State Behrend capped the North scoring with a tip in goal two minutes into the third period.
Chris Morgan of Edinboro (Beaver Area High School) was named All-Star MVP for his one goal and two assists. The win put the North squad in the lead 3-2 for the overall record of the All-Star Game.
